Over 25 years of plasma excellence
Since our inception in 1993 Europlasma has been one of the world’s leading innovators in the design and production of low pressure plasma technologies.
Europlasma has the unique advantage of being fully vertically integrated: we design and produce all of our machines, technologies, chemicals and application in house in our headquarters in Belgium.
What is Plasma?
Plasma is the fourth fundamental state of matter after solid, liquid and gas. At this stage of matter it exists in the form of a gas of ions and free electrons and is highly electrically conductive.Although plasma is abundant in the universe, natural occurrences are relatively rare here on Earth. Lightning, static electricity, and auroras are the primary sources of natural plasma on Earth. Plasma can be generated in different ways, our sister company in France, CPI, specialises in atmospheric plasma. At Europlasma we specialise in low pressure (vacuum) plasma.
Plasma cleaning, etching, functionalisation
Since the 1990’s Europlasma has been a leading manufacturer of low pressure plasma systems for various surface treatments:
- Cleaning: removal of molecular contamination layers from a surface
- Etching: removal of surface material (several nm up to 1 µm)
- Activation: chemical modification of surface prior to gluing, painting or bonding
Nano-Coating
In the past decade Europlasma developed its patented technology to use low pressure plasma to deposit ultra-thin (nanometers) coatings through a process called plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition (PECVD) also called plasma polymerisation. Europlasma is unique in its capability of applying nanocoating both on 3d object as well as on rolls of textiles by winding and unwinding the textile through our patented electrode design. Europlasma has successfully industrialised this technology for roll widths from 0.5 meter right up to 2.5 meter. This requires a deep knowledge of plasma technology, process chemistry, material sciences and vacuum equipment design. With our proprietary PECVD technology, the ultra-thin coating is applied uniformly on is able to penetrate into the core of complex shaped materials or products such as PCB’s, electronic devices, filtration membranes or technical textiles. The unique way in which the coatings are deposited allows to achieve outstanding functional performance. Furthermore these coatings are so thin that they are not visible and do not alter the other characteristics of your products.
