Does Nano-Coating help against Corona?

These are difficult times. A global pandemic is spreading across the globe and governments are forced to take ever more drastic measure to curtail the spread.
There are a lot of unknowns and insecurity about the virus but what almost unanimously agreed is that technology will play a key role in protection, mitigation and prevention.
One of those technologies that may be unbeknownst to most contribute is Nano-coating. Europlasma’s patented array of thin flexible, invisible and environmentally friendly nano-coatings are a key component of many virus fighting measures.
Our oleophobic coatings can be found in face masks and other protective non-woven textiles where they help to achieve the high filter efficiency that is needed to capture the smallest particles, including viruses.
Similarly these coatings are used in air filtration. Think hereby at the filtration of hospitals, clean rooms, high-rise buildings or cruise ships.
Next to these applications our coatings on 3d objects can make them highly water and oil repellent, which has a proven antibacterial and antiviral effect.
Europlasma’s hydrophilic coating are used on many types of culture plates and other laboratory equipment that are used (among many other things) for Covid-19 detection tests.
And last but not least our low pressure plasma activation is used in a wide variety of medical equipment for bonding, gluing, printing etc.
All these together are only a small contribution that we are non the less very proud of. The majority of the efforts are done by the thousands of nurses, doctors, carers and others whose tireless efforts are keeping us all as safe as possible

A New Year and a New Blog

Europlasma CEO

On this first day of the new year in many places in Asia and beyond Europlasma is launching this new  blog.

It is my great pleasure to be the maiden contributor but expect regular updates from some of the great minds that work at Europlasma or some interesting voices that are differently involved in low pressure plasma and nanocoating.

Happy year of the rat!

I would like to use this opportunity to congratulate all our Chinese , as well as those from other countries that use the lunar calendar, a very happy new year. May the year of the rat bring you joy, happiness, good health and prosperity!
The Western year (and decade) started a few weeks ago now and judging by how it did its promising to be a really exciting one! CES got the technology world off with a bang and Europlasma was also present at Intersec Dubai. Both showed us that our technology is in ever greater demand.

The way forward for Europlasma

Last year was a pivotal moment in the growth of Europlasma as it saw the integration of Europlasma in the wider Plasmalex group (www.plasmalex.com) and the start of my tenure as CEO.
The integration into the Plasmalex group which gives Europlasma access to a much wider portfolio of chemistries and patents as well as much more engineering knowhow.

Together this will allow Europlasma to continue to enhance its focus on service, quality and reliability as well keep the spirit of continuous innovation that Europlasma is so well known for. Stay tuned for information on our novelties for 2020.

It’s the environment stupid!

Former US president Bill Clinton made the saying famous, but I am taking a page from Greta Thunberg’s book (as she famously referred to “the planet” in this way) to highlight the ever growing need for a more sustainable way of doing business.

By now it is clear to just about everyone that if we want to continue to grow our economy will have to move to a far more sustainable way of production. Limiting, or where possible eliminating dependency on fossil fuels, reducing water consumption and carbon emissions is no longer just a moral or marketing issue but a necessity and just good business.

This will only be possible by investing in new technologies, like nanocoating, that can not only bring the needed environmental benefits but also can increase performance and even improve the ever important bottom line.

The Europlasma difference

So how can Europlasma’s technology help you with the above?
In the electronics we launched PlasmaGuard, the first fully halogen free nanocoating that not only replace the fluorinated nanocoatings for water repellency, the PlasmaGuard E variant provides a water and sweatproof barrier that is up to 5x stronger than parylene. This means that for the first time optimal protection levels can be reached without any of the harmful chemical normally used. The combination of making this part of the supply chain more sustainable while improving performance and reducing costs has obviously been met with great interest by the Silicon .

In the hearing aid industry Europlasma for instance is now being used by another of the dominating  suppliers making Europlasma rapidly the industry standard.

In the filtration business our early adopters are seeing great benefits from choosing Europlasma nano-coating. They report that they reach much higher filter efficiency with a much lower pressure drop than before, all the while saving millions of litres of water and chemicals and significantly lowering CO2 emissions.

Europlasma is also still helping many PCB manufacturers to drastically reduce their chemical use by replacing liquid etching with its dry vacuum process. Next to improved performance, precision and lower user costs it also has incredible benefits for the environment.

Come and talk to us!

Is your company active in any of the above industries and you too want to benefit from the many advantages of using Europlasma technologies we would love to hear from you! Equally we have helped countless other industries with specialised plasma applications, if you think we can help you do not hesitate to contact us!
